Horrid Henry

Room 2 at Phillipstown School read a Horrid Henry book for the first time today.  Here’s what some of the children thought:

I thought it was funny – Katarina

It was embarassing to what happened to Henry – Myka

The vegetable story was disgusting! – Aira

We all liked the book and can’t wait to read more.

Horrid Henry in 3D

Here’s the first look at the Horrid Henry movie in 3D that is coming out later this year.  It looks hilarious and the cast looks amazing.  While you wait for the movie you could read all about Horrid Henry’s antics in his books that we have in the library or watch the cartoon series that we have on DVD.

What’s your favourite Horrid Henry story?

Horrid Henry and The Last Airbender on DVD

Two new book related DVDs have arrived in the library this week: the TV series of Horrid Henry, and (just in time for the movie) the TV series of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Now you can watch your favourite horrible boy, Horrid Henry, create havoc on your TV screen in Horrid Henry’s Underpants and Horrid Henry’s Horrid Revenge.  Each DVD has 6 episodes plus heaps of extras, including a quiz, games and other cool activities.

Before Avatar: The Last Airbender was a movie, or a cartoon series it was a graphic novel about a brother and sister who rescue a mysterious boy named Aang, who has been trapped in a glacier.  He is one of the Airbenders, a race of people not seen in a century, and the long-lost avatar whose destiny is to save the world from war with the Fire Nation.  You can now get all the volumes out on DVD from the library and discover the story behind the movie.

War Horse movie and Horrid Henry in 3D

Two book related movies are filming later this year and will come out in cinemas at the end of next year.  One that I’m very excited about is Michael Morpurgo’s book War Horse that is being made into a movie directed by Steven Spielberg, the man behind some huge movies like Jurassic Park, E.T. and Indianna Jones.   War Horse tells the story of a horse as he moves from life on a farm to the battles of World War 1.  Through the eyes of the war horse, Joey, Michael Morpurgo tells the moving and powerful story of survival on the western front.  I’m sure it will be a great movie, but if you haven’t read the book I highly recommend it, and all of Michael Morpurgo’s other books.

Francesca Simon’s Horrid Henry will also be showing up on the movie screen in 3D and is being directed by the same person as Nanny McPhee.  Horrid Henry is one of the most popular book characters and he’s been up to so much trouble over the years.  It will be interesting to see what he gets up to in the movie and see how horrible they make him on the big screen.

Would you go and see these movies when they come out next year?
